Frequently Asked Questions
How does the warranty work?
We offer Smartwash seats of a quality that will last for years to come. Which is why all our products are backed by an outstanding warranty package. All our seats have been rigorously tested for durability and reliability and all are UL certified.
In the unlikely event you have a problem with your Smartwash toilet seat, your first step should be to contact us, and we’ll troubleshoot the problem with you. If the problem can be fixed by sending you a spare part, like a new hose for example, we shall do so. Or if we determine your remote control is not working properly, we’ll ship you a new remote.
If the problem seems to be of a mechanical nature, we’ll ask you to ship your Smartwash seat back to us. You will be responsible the cost of shipping the unit to us, and once the unit is repaired, we will bear the cost of shipping the unit back to you.
Warranty coverage plans are product-specific, and warranty details for each Smartwash seat model can be found on each of our product pages. You’ll also find information on (optional) Extended Warranty plans on these pages as well
Do you have any special promotions or discounts?
We certainly do! Keep in mind, however, that our special promotions are subject to availability and do change. If you like a particular promotion currently available on our website, we suggest you place your order soon, as the offer may change in future without notice.
How do I power the Smartwash seat?
Our Smartwash seats require a standard 220V 3-prong outlet. You may use an extension cord or install a GFCI outlet as a more permanent solution.
Is the wash spout required to be in contact for effective use?
No. During operation, the wash spout will extend out from the seat assembly only enough to begin spraying the stream of water. After you have finished cleansing, the nozzle will retract automatically.
What about splashing?
The stream of water is directed narrowly at the desired area of cleansing. There is very little splashing.
How effective is the cleansing?
Effective beyond doubt. All of our Smartwash seats feature adjustable water temperature and pressure, allowing you to customize your cleansing experience. There is no need to "pre-wipe."
Will I still need to use toilet paper?
You may want to use a few squares to dry after washing, but it's unnecessary. The built-in dryer will provide a completely hands-free, irritation-free experience.
Do I need to clean the spout?
The spouts on our Smartwash seats self-clean before and after each use. There is no further requirement to clean them. If you are still concerned, a few of our models feature dedicated self-clean functions that will cleanse on demand. You may also clean the spout manually as desired.
Can a Smartwash seat be used by children, the elderly, and the handicapped?
Absolutely! Children love using a Smartwash seat and they are wonderful for parents with children who are potty-trained but not yet able to clean themselves. Furthermore, using the Child option will take care of all functional safety for children.
Those who are elderly, have limited mobility or other limitations especially benefit from use of the Smartwash.
What is the duration of the wash?
Pressing the ‘Cleanse’ or ‘Fem’ button on the remote control starts the two-minute wash cycle. Pressing this button once again at any point during that cycle starts the two-minute cycle from the beginning. The ‘STOP’ button will stop the cycle at any point.
What is the difference between the Fem and Cleanse washes on the Smartwash seats?
The ‘Fem’ wash offers a cleansing for women while the ‘Cleanse’ wash offers a posterior wash for both men and women.
Do the wands ever "get in the way"?
No, the wash wands are only extended during the cleaning cycle. At all other times they are housed in the unit to avoid being contaminated. As a further safeguard, the wands clean themselves with a high pressure spray of water before and after each use.
Is a Smartwash safe and reliable?
Every Smartwash is CE certified, having been manufactured in Germany.
Do I need an electrical outlet?
Smartwash seats do require an electrical outlet. You will need a three-prong GFI grounded outlet (e.g., outlet with an internal safety breaker, common in kitchens and bathrooms). If your outlet is more than three and a half feet from the toilet, you will need a grounded extension cord to operate your unit. You require a 230V 50Hz AC outlet.
What is the length of the power cord?
The power cord is 1.9m long and connects to a standard 230V 50Hz AC power point.
Will the Smartwash seat fit my toilet?
It should! It fits about 98% of the toilets available. Do read the guide for clarification and specifications. To make sure, click on this link. A fitting chart will pop-up, which will walk you through some simple measurements.
Does the Smartwash seat require a hot water connection?
No. Electric Smartwash seats will heat the water themselves. All that is needed is cold water supply and the “T-connection” (which arrives bundled with the shipment).
Can I control the pressure and temperature of the water?
Yes, all electric Smartwash toilet seats allow users to adjust water temperature and pressure. Some research shows that most users prefer a water temperature at 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly above body temperature. High-end Smartwash toilet seats allow for vibrating and pulsating jets of water.
How do I get my Smartwash seat serviced?
While Smartwash seats are reliable products, problems sometimes do occur. If a problem does arise, first try to reset your Smartwash by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, give us a call and we will try to help you fix the problem.
If the problem continues, servicing it may be the only option. All Smartwash seats sold at our site come with a minimum 1-year manufacturers warranty, with some offering longer warranties. If you need warranty service, you should call the manufacturer. Please keep ready information such your purchase number and date you bought your Smartwash (all on the packing slip that came with your Smartwash) ready when you call. If the service representative says that work needs to be done, there are two options to go about this. First, you can send the Smartwash seat to the service center for the repairs (shipping costs are split, you pay for shipment there, they will pay for return shipment) and it will take 1-2 weeks. This is the safe option, but may take a longer time than desired. Another option is if you have somebody at home that feels comfortable fixing it, the manufacturer will ship you replacement parts to use. This is a quicker option, but not as safe as having the manufacturer fixing it. Please talk with the service center representative to determine the best course of action.
Why is it better for me than toilet paper?
Using tissue to wash your hands is just not as effective as using water. The same is true for your personal areas. When you use water there are no minute traces of toilet paper left behind to irritate.
If cleanliness and hygiene are important to you, then you will find the Smartwash seat to be an integral part of your lifestyle and general family well being. It’s the best way to get that hygienic shower fresh feeling (aside from actually having a shower!)

People once asked this question about microwaves – now they can’t live without one! You will find an electronic Smartwash an essential part of your life, cleanliness and comfort. How can it help health issues?
The Smartwash seat has a soothing and cleaning effect on conditions such as haemorrhoids and diarrhoea - it’s certainly less painful than wiping. Using the Smartwash after intercourse can help prevent common infections like cystitis from occurring.

All high end Smartwashes have a built-in sensor. The Smartwash can’t be operated unless the sensor registers someone sitting down. As soon as someone stands up, the Smartwash automatically stops.
Won’t the Smartwash seat waste water?
Smartwash seats are actually smarter about water usage than the average toilet. Smart toilets sense how much water is needed and flush using just the right amount. I’m a bit self-conscious about having a Smartwash.
If you’ve travelled extensively you’ll realise just how many people in the world use water for cleansing, for good reason: freshness, hygiene and environmental concerns. It’s been popular in Europe for decades - and the Smartwash seat is much more comfortable than a cold porcelain pan (the heated seat for one thing!) So who cares what people think?! Your personal hygiene is more important. If you don’t get embarrassed, they won’t care.
What about mixing water and electronic appliance?
Care should always be taken when using electrical appliances around water. The electrical components of the Smartwash are fully enclosed in a waterproof environment, and there is a thermal cut-out switch safety feature in the hot water system.
Do I need to use soap?
No. Smartwash seats possess superior water pressure that cleans hands-free.
Won’t the water get everywhere?
No fear, it won’t. The retractable spouts are directional and controlled. They emerge only when a user is seated on the toilet and their services are required.
What is the seat sensor?
Every Smartwash has a built in sensor. The smart seat is operational once the sensor detects a user sitting on the seat. Its operation stops once the user leaves the seat. It is driven by contact with the human body.
Is it hard to clean the Smartwash seat?
Nope, it’s very easy to clean. All you need is a mild cleaning detergent and a damp cloth.
What is the weight limit?
The seat has weight limit of 120 kg. This is the weight being considered when the user sits on the seat with feet resting on the floor. It is inadvisable to stand on the seat.
How does the de-odouriser work?

Certain Smartwash seats have in-built seat heater to keep the body warm. The Seat temperature panel has 3 set temperatures that can be set using the Seat Temperature option.
Does the Smartwash seat require maintenance?
Smart wash seats are made of anti-bacterial plastics, which can be cleaned with a soft, wet cloth and a mild detergent.
For complete cleaning, the product features a Seat release button on the mounting bracket. We also recommend replacement of the inline water filter monthly once (on the basis of water quality).
One must clean dirt accumulated at the mesh filter once each month, by removing the Smartwash hose at the product’s side. Maintaining power supply as specified in the Product Manual is key.
